Enlightened Academic Oblivion

Enlightened Academic Oblivion

With not a whole lot of time or money to make it up to Bohemia as much as I had intended last winter, I resorted to skiing within the confines of Marquette County. I guess the word ‘resorted’ has a bit too much of a negative implication, though — perhaps a better choice would be reveled. I reveled in the discovery of fresh tracks that could be found within a half an hour of downtown Marquette. I celebrated the chance to get a few hard-earned turns in before class on Tuesday mornings. I was happy to have a place to earn some Midwest turns anytime I felt like it, without having to drive three hours and without having to pay for it. This piece, published in the Ski Journal in November, 2013, came from that excitement — and ultimate meditation — of hogging turns at all hours of the day just to remain sane amidst exams and papers. Hopefully you’ve found a similar moving meditation with some early morning turn earning — whether they were at a local resort or outside your backdoor.
